Primal paint & Making art with natural materials (7-12y)
In the context of themes such as sustainability, nature, pollution and transience, Dorieke Schreurs has developed a workshop on “primal paint”. This means that the children will make art with homemade paints based on natural materials. This ties in with her work as a visual artist and researcher, with a focus on sustainability and cradle-to-cradle work.
Goal: In this workshop the children are challenged to make their own paint from natural materials from their own environment. This includes loess and marl. They also learn the difference between using harmless materials (natural paint) and polluting materials.
Based on a short instruction, the children (in groups or individually) get to work to make their own paint. They will then try this paint. However, the emphasis in this workshop is on the process of making paint; not on the visual result.
Additional requirements: Give the children old clothes or an apron.
