Heart
Installation with painting and local limestone / Mergel
Painting 1.60m x 1.20m, Tempera, made with natural pigments, on burlap. 2018
“I was gifted this beautiful piece of nature and I took a picture of this piece of earth, life, while holding it in my hand. And while the material itself was already transformed into wonderful natural colour pigment, the image stuck in my head…and as is often the case, suddenly after two months it popped back into my thoughts and spoke to me. Suddenly I recognised another shape, one that would combine the act of giving with the essence of my work/research.. that earth is the heart of our being, the origin and destination of all life. A heart, love for nature, the continuous balance of giving and taking, and a believe in positive energy, became the inspiration for this canvas. Because it is these kind, giving gestures that touch me deeply and make me smile from the core of my being…I absolutely believe in giving and sharing, in the energy flows it creates and what they will provide. I am a giving and sharing person, I wouldn’t know how to be any other way…a strength but also a vulnerability, it has sometimes left me; wounded by deceit, taken advantage of, hurt by jealousy, taken for granted…but it has also brought me so many gifts and blessings in all different shapes and forms, beautiful people, kindness, gifts, connections, knowledge, likeminded souls. And it are these that make me feel so alive, so grateful and humble! Our heart, our earth, Mother Nature is a giving too, one that is too often taken advantage of, taken from more than given back to, taken for granted,… time to give back, the future is circular!.”
For this exhibition the large canvas is shown as an installation in combination with a visualisation of the natural pigment process.
